CONCRETE NOUNS

Concrete Noun is divided into two, which are:

   1) Common Nouns

   2) Proper Nouns

Common Nouns

Common Noun is a name which is used for all things of the same kind or class. For example, the name "boy" maybe given to anybody and every girl such as Sara, John, Bruno, etc. It does not belong especially to one particular boy. It is a name common to all boys. The word "boy" is therefore called a Common Noun.


Common Nouns can be classified under four classes which are people, animals, places and things. Under these four classes, we can find many Common Nouns.

Activity.

        Identify the Common Nouns in the following sentences.

               1) We arrived early at the station.

               2) The man was trying to steal Johny's car.

               3) They have gone to the zoo.

               4) The baby is crying.

               5) My mother is in the kitchen.

               6) He threw some nuts to the monkeys.

               7) That temple was built before I was born.

               8) She is hanging out the clothes to dry.

Proper Nouns

A Proper Noun is the name of one particular person or thing. For example, "John" is a boy's own special name. It does not belong to all boys. The word "proper" means one's own. So the name "John" is called a Proper Noun.

Basically, a word can be converted from Common Noun to Proper Noun. Picture below shows the example how Proper Noun is formed from Common Noun.
