COUNTABLE NOUNS

Countable Nouns are nouns which can be counted. For instance, "car". We can count cars. We can have one, two, three or more cars.

Here are some of the examples of Countable Nouns:

     ~dog, cat, animal, man, person and others.

     ~bottle, box, basket, bin, case and others.

     ~coin, note, dollar and others.

     ~cup, bowl, fox, spoon, knife, whisk and others.

     ~table, book, suitcase, fan, chair and others.


Determiners can be used with Countable Nouns and they must be used before the Countable Nouns. Below, you can see some of the determiners that we can use along with Countable Nouns.

Examples:

There are many books on that table.

The storm destroyed a large number of houses.

She bought some oranges for her younger sister.

My sister bought a cake for my birthday. Phrase "a cake" means one cake, therefore we can count the cake either one, two, three and so on.

This flower was planted by my mother. Phrase "this flower" means one flower. Hence flower can be counted either one, two, three and so on.


My father has a silver car. Phrase "a silver car" means one car. Obviously, car can be counted. Thus, car is one of the Countable Nouns.
